The Mercury part numbers for the gear are 43-60653, 43-86686 and 43-86686A 1.
This is the gear that is pressed onto the top of the shift shaft. It has 8 splines with one of the splines being wider than the rest. This is so that it only goes onto the shaft in the correct position.
New, ORM part that does not come in the packaging.
This gear works on many Mercury/Mariner outboards from the 1975-79 with a 4 HP, 7.5 or 9.8 HP engine.
