This is one Mercury Shift shaft gear
Mercury Part Number: 43-55447
This is the gear that is pressed onto the top of the shift shaft.
It has 8 splines with one of the teeth/splines being wider than the rest. This is so that it only goes onto the shaft in the correct position.
This gear works on many Mercury outboards from the 1970s and 1980s. It is used on 4 HP, 7.5 and 9.8 HP model 110.
